The title of the recital, Irrlichter (will-o’-the-wisp), comes from one of Rennert’s favourite songs, Des Fischers Liebesglück. Like a will-o’-the-wisp, Schubert’s music leaves us in a state of uncertainty — suspended between memory and longing. This sense of ambiguity runs through the programme, shaping a twilight world in which each song reveals a different dream, a different longing to be discovered.
